2000s
2001 saw the first Camp Hope at Christ Lutheran Church. This innovative program is an all-day camp for kids that is led by teenagers, who are mentored by adults.
The teen camp leaders and staff are paid a small wage, providing them an incentive to participate. Being a camp leader reinforces their knowledge of the Bible as they prepare and lead stories, crafts, and music related to each day’s curriculum. They serve as role models of Christian leaders for the middle school youth who are volunteer support staff, being trained on the job for when it’s their turn to lead. Together, they teach elementary-aged kids, who have fun, learn about God, and see that it’s cool to be Christian.
This multi-week program keeps kids engaged during their summer break, and helps working parents who might be struggling to find affordable activities for their families when school is not is session.
2005 brought a pastoral change as Pastors Henske and Jones left for a new church and Pastor Paul Geisler brought his family to Lake Jackson. The parsonage on Narcissus was sold as the ELCA updated its policies to allow pastors to invest in homes of their own. Pastor Geisler served Christ Lutheran Church for 17 years until his retirement in September 2022.
Under Pastor Geisler’s leadership, technology was introduced to the sanctuary with a new sound system, a computer station, and a projection system for worship services.
IN 2009, church youth and their sponsors attended the ELCA National Youth Gathering “Jesus, Justice and Jazz” in New Orleans. This gave the youth an opportunity to help rebuild New Orleans after the double hit of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and experience a connection to the wider church of God.
