New Here?
We have tried to anticipate the questions you may have when coming to Christ Lutheran for the first time so here is what you can expect. If you have any further questions or want more information please email or call us and we’ll be glad to find answers.
-
No dress code needed. You’ll find folks in everything from shorts to jeans to suits - and even their favorite sports team jerseys during playoffs!
-
Park anywhere you like. If you need special access, there is a driveway loop from the parking lot. You are welcome to park here temporarily to help folks needing extra assistance into the church.
-
The area between the front doors and the church sanctuary is our Gathering area (also known as the narthex). Folks like to mingle here and catch up with each other both before and after service. There is a lot of information available here, and an art corner by the doors to the sanctuary is decorated according to the church season.
Printed bulletins are available in regular or large print. These contain the order of the service, the songs and the Scriptures that will be used in the service. However, this same information will be on the large screen in the sanctuary, so a printed bulletin is optional.
Puzzle sheets, crayons, and coloring books to keep the kids engaged are also available.
-
During worship there will be community singing, a thoughtful sermon and the invitation to take part in Holy Communion. Lutherans celebrate communion as an “open table.” You don’t have to be a certain age, a Lutheran, or even a Christian to enjoy the goodness of God. Ushers will provide directions. Wine or grape juice is available.
-
Pause in the Gathering area where there is coffee (juice boxes for the kids) and usually a snack. This is our family time. Besides coffee and conversation, information about the current projects and volunteer opportunities is posted.
Be sure to check out the photo wall of our members so you can match names to faces.
-
The nursery with a changing table and pre-school age toys, is at the right-hand end of the narthex. We do not have a nursery attendant, but if your little ones need a change or some space to be a kid, this is the place.
-
Restrooms are located around the corner at the right-hand end of the narthex. Just take a left at the corner and the restrooms will be on the left.
-
Children and youth are encouraged to participate in the worship service. Younger children can help collect the offering and bring it to the pastor, older youth are invited to acolyte (light the candles), read the Scripture, help with the slide presentation, or learn to be an usher.
Confirmation classes are available to provide emerging adults (youth grades 6 – 8 roughly) deeper instruction in what ELCA Lutherans believe, living in faith, and prayer.
-
Every Sunday at 9 AM, adults gather in the narthex for challenging lessons and thoughtful conversation.
Topics range from books of the Bible, to ELCA Social Statements, to resources on what it means to live as a Christian. We are learning to follow God together.
New Member classes are offered periodically to provide deeper instruction in what Lutherans believe to folks joining the church.
